What Is CBD Specifically?

Many may know what CBD is, but for those of you who don’t – CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a popular product that helps with anything from pain, anxiety, inflammation, and even a good night’s rest. It is extracted from the hemp, which both come from the actual plant. Many people use CBD as CBD is non-psychoactive. Meaning you experience the benefits which include anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, without the euphoric effect. Your body pain will ease and your mind will become calm, all while not feeling “high”. You are still able to function normally with a sound mind and will not experience any of the crippling affects. Essentially, there are tons of benefits of using CBD.

What Is Inflammation?

I know I know, we all know what it is. But it helps to get a refresher – trust me! When your body faces a virus, bacteria or suffers an injury, it activates your immune system. Your immune system then sends out its first responders, which are your inflammatory cells. These cells begin a reaction that trap bacteria and/or start healing injured tissue. This will result in pain, swelling, bruising or redness. There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic. Acute inflammation is the response to sudden damage done to your body. Meaning, if you sprain your ankle your body will send inflammatory cells to start the healing process for this injury. Your ankle swells, gets hot, and causes you pain. Chronic inflammation is when your body continues sending inflammatory cells even when there is no outside danger happening. Meaning, if you have arthritis, inflammatory cells attack your joint tissues which lead to swelling, which then causes pain, severe damage, and deformities. Conditions linked to chronic inflammation include: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and arthritis.

Can CBD Reduce Inflammation?

Cannabidiol has therapeutic potential which has been evaluated in cardiovascular, neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease), cancer, and metabolic diseases – which are all usually accompanied by stress and inflammation. As research on CBD is in its early stages, there’s a lot we do not know. But what we do know is promising. CBD reduces inflammation by affecting activity in the body’s endocannabinoid receptors. The endocannabinoid system or ECS is a very complex cell-signaling system. It plays a role in regulating your sleep, mood, appetite, memory, immune response, and other things. So, in short – yes, CBD reduces inflammation by influencing the activity in the ECS receptors.

What Type of CBD Helps with Inflammation?

If you’re researching CBD oil, you’ll most likely come across information about CBD tinctures as they are interchangeable – although the two do have big differences. A tincture is made by soaking the plant in alcohol and heating it to infuse the alcohol with CBD; it’s then boiled or diluted. CBD oil is an extraction process that separates CBD from the plant and then diffuses it into a carrier oil. Although the products look and are packaged similar, they are very different. CBD oil is much more potent and can be used topically, whereas CBD tinctures are not as potent, have a longer shelf life and should never be used topically. So, CBD oil is best for inflammation – but which CBD oil? CBD oils that have beneficial terpenes are the best for inflammation. What does that even mean? Terpenes are fragrant oils or also widely known as essential oils that are produced alongside CBD – they account for the distinctive smell and flavors which include pine, mint, berry or citrus. Terpenes provide therapeutic qualities that enhance the effects of the CBD oil. Some terpenes balance out the less desirable psychoactive effects. The most popular terpene for inflammation is myrcene.

You can use CBD oil in several different ways: topically, orally – under the tongue, or putting drops of the oil in your food or drinks. Putting the oil under your tongue will result in a body wide effect. When using a topical, you massage the oil or salve on whatever part of your body that’s hurting and that area is the only area affected. This usually takes around one hour to kick in, so be aware that the effects are not immediate. Our Full Spectrum Peppermint Pain Salve is a perfect product to try! It’s a number one seller on our site and naturally relieves pain for your muscles and inflammation.

Whether you have chronic inflammation or acute inflammation CBD can help with your pain and stress. The right product will ultimately depend on your personal preference. As always, do your own research and talk to your doctor with any further questions you may have.

How Drug Tests Work (Testing for Illegal Drugs)

Drug tests are widely known and look for the presence of certain illegal drugs and prescription medications. There are several types of drug tests: hair, urine, sweat, saliva, and blood test. But the most common drug test is a urine test and is most popular. Drug tests are usually used for pre-employment, at random, or post-accident by employers for employees with certain careers. Urinalysis is the only drug test that is approved federally and quite frankly the easiest and quickest test to provide. Drugs can stay in the system well after consumption and up to 30 days, no matter the amount consumed. Although a urine test does not determine whether a person was under the influence when taking the test or on the job, it either provides a positive or negative result. In this case there is no way to prove when the drug was taken, whether it was second handily consumed or how much was actually in your system – it either is or isn’t.

For most urine tests the healthcare provider can determine a negative or positive result by the way the urine looks. They check to see whether the urine is cloudy, dark yellow or even another color. As we all know normal urine is usually some shade of yellow – pale or deep depending on your water consumption. A note to take: if your urine sample comes back too pale some healthcare providers will ask you to fast from water and come back the next morning when your urine is not diluted. Once the urine test is completed the healthcare provider sends the sample to a laboratory for testing and viewing under a microscope. In some cases, the healthcare provider will check the urine with a color dipstick for instant and fast results. If it is sent to a lab it takes one to three business days to receive the results.

Can Using CBD Products Lead to A Positive Drug Test Result?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a popular product that helps with anything from pain, anxiety, stress, or a good night’s rest. CBD can interact with the endocannabinoid system. We know, so many big words! But, in short, the ECS system plays a role in regulating your sleep, mood, appetite, memory, and your reproductive and fertility systems.

Many people choose to use CBD as CBD has many benefits without the euphoric effects. Your body pain will ease and your mind will suddenly be calm. Essentially, there are no side effects, just benefits. But the posing question comes up: Can Using CBD Products Lead to A Positive Drug Test Result? In short, it may if you do not diligently research the CBD you are taking. In long, read below. We promise, there are details that are worth reading!

Since the CBD industry is largely unregulated, you are better off getting CBD oil, gummies, concentrate, or tea that ONLY contains CBD and no other drugs. But more importantly, you should do your own research – there are recommendations further down on how to research! There are different types of CBD: hemp-derived, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. Your best bet: CBD isolate as it does not contain any other compound of the plant – it is strictly CBD.

How To Make Sure Your CBD Products DON’T Contain Other Drug Ingredients

We know, we know, now you want to know how to make sure you don’t buy a CBD product that contains any other part of the plant, and where you can find the detailed ingredients. Don’t worry, we thought of that too! The first recommendation is to always choose a product that solely made from CBD and no other part of the plant. Secondly, research our products that are purely CBD-based. Ask us too many questions and relay your fear of not passing a urine test— we’ve got you covered! We will steer you towards our CBD products that are “Pure CBD” and made from CBD isolate. The third recommendation (if you are still weary and quite honestly the most important) is to ask for our Certificate of Analysis (COA), which gives all the details of the compounds found in each of our products.

We hope this helped, even just a little!

And we look forward to hearing from you to see how we can help relieve your pain, anxiety, and skin sensitivity— all while steering clear of a positive drug test.

Mother earth gives so much to us and we are responsible for taking good care of her gifts and giving back when we can. When we started Made from Dirt, we made a vow to use only eco-conscious ingredients and keep sustainability top of mind. We source all of our CBD from hemp, but that's not all hemp is good for. Hemp has many uses and if not for prohibition, it would have been a more sustainable option for many things crucial to modern society. From paper to energy, hemp can do more than make your skin look radiant. How can it help preserve our planet? Let us count the ways.

  1. Concrete - made from hemp! You can build a house out of hemp that would put the big bad wolf to shame. There are a few things that set it apart from current materials used in housing today that have remained unchanged for generations. Hemp is a renewable and affordable source that provides amazing insulation and is antimicrobial and antifungal. It can be made just using the hurds, which is an agricultural by-product from hemp grown for other uses such as fiber. One person’s trash is another’s treasure.

  2. Biofuel Looking at those gas prices on El Camino Real in San Clemente is enough incentive to stay home. What’s more is that fossil fuels are not only harmful to the environment, but they’re also not renewable, either. While hemp cannot completely replace standard gasoline, with the right technological advances hemp has the potential to lead us to a greener planet.

  3. Superfood and Fabric These two uses of hemp are no secret. Hemp milk, powder protein, and seeds can be found on almost any local breakfast cafe menu in San Clemente. Hemp seed oil can be found in a grocery store—not to be confused with hemp CBD oil—but both are equally beneficial to your health. Hemp is making its way back into clothing and shoe fabrics, something that was common practice in the 1800s and widely used in both World Wars. You can have breakfast eating hemp, supplementing with hemp CBD while wearing hemp canvas Vans.

  4. Soil enrichment

If you want your plants to flourish, good soil is crucial. With hemp, it can grow successfully in soil contaminated with pollutants and leave it better than it found it. This process is called “phytoremediation”. As a hemp plant grows, it can pull contaminants and toxins out of the soil with little to no stress on the plant at all. Mother nature needs a detox and the remedy is hemp.

It’s becoming more urgent to develop new practices and methods to preserve our planet and eco-friendly hemp can get us on the right path. Imagine a world where our food, energy, clothes, and homes, all come from a renewable source that leaves the soil of the earth richer as it grows. That can be a reality with hemp. CBD was the catalyst for the most recent policies around agricultural hemp, and the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. We see a bright future for hemp and a happier future for the planet.
